Drain Care Products
One of the most common plumbing problems is drains clogged with hair. There are many products to unclog drains. Some are dangerous to your health, your drains health and/or your septic systems health. Among the most popular are chemical cleaners that are designed to dissolve hair and soap, the most common clogging agents. These acids are strong enough to eat through hair. They are also strong enough to eat through body parts and plumbing and are poisonous. The natural method, using baking soda and vinegar is useful for routine, preventative cleaning, but not that effective at removing clogs. There are air powered drain cleaners that blast clogs out with compressed air. These are no toxic and can be effective. They can also blow out weak spots and junctions in the drains. Breaks in drains hidden in structure can be very hard to identify and can cause damage to home and occupants health. There are snakes that con be expensive and hard for the average person to use.
In recent years, new solutions have been invented that I recommend. In fact, I think every household needs at least on of each of these products. The Zip-It is a drain cleaner that is a thin, plastic rod with barbs. It’s 18 inches long. Inserted into a drain, it snags hair and pulls it out. This tool works almost every time, first try. The other product is a hair catcher for shower and bath that actually works. The Tub Shroom and Shower Shroom slip into the drain. Hair wraps around the Shroom preventing it from going down the drain.
